The opportunity:

We are expanding and looking to add a portfolio analyst to our team. The position will join the Finance & Accounting department and report directly to CFO.

The Responsibilities:

• Providing analytical, reporting, and modeling support to senior management on merchant portfolio performance.
• Conducting real-time and monthly analysis of merchant portfolio to maximize financial performance and client retention.
• Providing regular proactive reporting on key trends to both senior management as well as downline operations teams in order to assist with decision making on individual merchant accounts, portfolio stratification and the overall merchant portfolio.
• Producing weekly, monthly and annual reports including key metrics, financial results and variance reporting. Some of these reports may be automatically generated and require review, whereas others may require the manual compilation of data.
• Issue actionable recommendations on portfolio components which are underperforming, at risk, or incurring losses.
• Assisting operations and senior management on decisioning of key industry changes affecting the performance of the portfolio.
• Working in tandem with the rest of the finance and accounting team to report on key metrics and drivers affecting both historical and budgeted financial performance.

 

Who you are:

• Relational database and warehousing querying experience. SQL – any dialect, and BigQuery is beneficial.
• Scripting related to data science (Python).
• Visualization experience (Looker) and experience with using, but not necessarily building, reusable data models (LookML) is strongly beneficial.
• Spreadsheet modeling (Excel).
• Exceptional soft skills, including the ability to communicate with non-finance members of the business, and to clearly articulate findings in writing and verbally to executive management.
• English proficiency at ACTFL “Superior” / ILR 4+ is required.

  • Be the initial member of a data and report development team
  • Work closely with the engineering team, finance leaders, and portfolio management
  • Build LookML reusable data models
  • Build new views and tables queries in Google BigQuery
  • Write one-off queries
  • Write recurring / scheduled queries for auto-run reports
  • Build reports and dashboards primarily in Looker, but also in Tableau for advanced visualizations
  • Manage data pipelines in FiveTran from various data sources
  • Normalize data between data sources

  • Perform setup of reporting APIs (not development – setup only)

Who you are:                                                   

  • 3-5 years of experience as a SQL analyst or advanced reporting developer
  • You are prepared to demonstrate your strong track record of delivering self-service and ad-hoc report and data tooling
  • Strong proficiency in SQL. Preference for BigQuery experience, but any SQL dialect is acceptable
  • A firm grasp of self-service data tools like Looker or Tableau. We use Looker, but will use Tableau as a visualization layer on top of Looker in some cases
  • A strong ability to translate business needs into data projects
  • A strong ability to determine relationships between undocumented or low-doc data sources
  • Experience building compelling and easy to read visualizations
  • Consuming third-party and internal APIs to read data
  • Speak and write in English at the C1 (Advanced) or greater level

 

What we prefer:

  • Experience with Python, data scraping, and data science is helpful but not strictly necessary
